Hazard Communications (HAZCOMM) Training
Over a half million hazardous chemical products are used by business and industry every year in the US. Some chemicals used in the workplace pose little danger to you, while others are deadly. Do you know the difference?
OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard, more commonly known as HazCom, applies to over 3 million American workplaces, and over 30 million potentially exposed workers. HazCom gives employees the right to know what chemicals are used in the workplace and to understand the hazards associated with these chemicals in the event of exposure. In May 2012, OSHA modified the Hazard Communication Standard to conform to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).
Employees must be trained on the new label elements (i.e., pictograms, hazard statements, precautionary statements, and signal words) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) format by December 1, 2013.
Purpose of this course:
Participants will learn the correct steps to take when working with or around hazardous chemicals. By receiving and understanding information on chemical hazards, employee workplace illnesses and injuries can be reduced.

- Operations in work areas where hazardous chemicals are or may be present
- Hazard Communication Programs
- Location and how to read Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Recognizing a spill or release
- Visual appearance or odor of the chemicals
- The physical and health hazards of the chemicals
- Protection methods and procedures
- Personal Protective Equipment needed
